As a service to you, we're pleased to provide some valuable holiday safety information compiled by the Injury Prevention Program at Children's Hospital Boston:

  • Keep burning candles in your sight and away from trees and plants.
  • Unplug holiday lights when you are sleeping or away from home.
  • Make sure you have working smoke detectors on every floor of your home and do not disconnect your smoke detector while cooking (cooking is the most common cause of fires in the home).
  • Use radiator covers to protect your children from burns.
  • Do not use the oven to heat your home.
  • Keep space heaters in sight and away from children. Always unplug space heaters when you leave your home.
  • Make sure your children are properly restrained when driving in your car. Whether you're going around the corner or across the state to grandma's, children should be in car seats until they're 8-years-old or taller than 4 foot 9 inches. Children under the age of 12 should always ride in the back seat.
