Company Announces Multi-Year
Sponsorship of Hospital's
Annual Walk
May 9, 2007
NSTAR, the company that delivers electricity and
natural gas to 1.4 million customers in Massachusetts,
is focusing the energy of its charitable foundation to
give back to children in local communities. NSTAR, on
behalf of the NSTAR Foundation, announced today a
multi-year, seven-figure gift to Children’s Hospital
Boston as the named sponsor of the hospital’s annual
Walk.
The Sunday June 10 event will officially be named NSTAR’s Walk for Children’s Hospital Boston. Children’s Hospital and NSTAR are going five for five: the company has pledged to support the walk for five years as Children’s celebrates its fifth annual Walk.
“The best gift we can give our communities is our time and our talents to improve lives,” says NSTAR chairman, president and CEO Tom May. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with such a world class institution that for many years has provided the gift of life and a successful future to so many children.”
In addition to serving as the named sponsor of the Walk, NSTAR is lending additional expertise to promote the event and help Children’s increase walk participation. As part of NSTAR’s employee volunteerism program, company employees also will volunteer at the Walk and form an NSTAR Walk team.
“NSTAR’s gift demonstrates its deep commitment to children and the powerful impact corporate support can have on our community. We’re grateful for the gift that not only will help us increase awareness of the event, but also increase the number of walkers and raise more vital funds for Children’s,” says Dr. James Mandell, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital Boston.
Thousands of walkers will lace up their sneakers for NSTAR’s Walk for Children's Hospital Boston on Sunday, June 10 at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River. Funds raised will support patient care, pediatric research-and community health programs.
Families looking for a fun way to keep kids active and teach the importance of giving by logging miles for miracles can register before the walk or on Sunday June 10 for either the 2- or 7-mile walk. Registration is $15 for adults; $5 for children 12 and under. Each adult walker must raise at least $100.
Walker registration and kids’ activities
begins at 8:30am. The 7-mile pledge walk begins at
10:00am and the 2-mile pledge walk begins at 11:00am.
Walk festivities also include a “Kid’s Corral” with
games, face-painting, clowns, treats, magician, a
performance by Girl Authority, and much more. For more
