To date the changes have included:
- Construction of a new substation to serve as a platform for enhancing our electric infrastructure in Brookline and neighboring communities in Boston.
- Installation of new cable, transformers, and switches in order to facilitate the delivery of electricity to your household.
- Civil construction to install new conduit and manholes to house the backbone of our enhanced electric infrastructure.
- Miles of tree trimming to protect circuits from encroaching vegetation
The work to date has already resulted in approximately 10,000 customers being converted to a new electric system and an overall improvement in the reliability in these neighborhoods. However, our work is not complete. In the upcoming months our crews will be working on the next phase of our improvement project. This work includes:
- Installing new overhead and underground equipment primarily in the neighborhoods north of Beacon Street in the Coolidge Corner in the Green and Stedman Street areas as well as the neighborhoods east of Saint Paul Street near the Armory Street Playground. This work represents the final phase of our conversion in these neighborhoods, allowing customers in this area to be added onto our new 13.8 kilovolt system.
- Replacing the electrical infrastructure in the neighborhoods adjacent to Linden Street and Webster Place in Brookline Village. In the coming weeks we will be scheduling several planned outages to convert customers in this area onto our new 13.8 kV system.
- Inspections of our overhead and underground electric system in key areas using infrared screening technology. Visual and infrared surveys help us detect potential problems in our circuits.
This system improvement project is extensive and will take time. While we perform a good deal of the maintenance work on the system without interrupting your service, this is not always an option for us. The safety of our employees is of the utmost importance and, at times, we will need to de-energize circuits in order to perform our work.
If scheduled improvements require us to interrupt your service,
we will notify you ahead of time. And although we try our best
to anticipate delays for these outages, sometimes
last minute delays happen. We try to avoid such delays, but
appreciate your patience if this occurs.
